Measures
At the cutting edge of social identity research
SIGN's researchers have developed a variety of measures that can be used in both research and clinical contexts. For more information on the various measures, see below.
The Bimboola paradigm
The Bimboola paradigm is an experimental research paradigm developed by Professor Jolanda Jetten and colleagues. The Bimboola paradigm is used to test for effects of wealth manipulation and inequality manipulation in psychological research studies.
The Bimboola resources provided below include a pdf with instructions for the wealth manipulation and the inequality manipulation, for use in research surveys.
Wealth manipulation

Inequality manipulation

The Identity Leadership Inventory (ILI)
The Identity Leadership Inventory (ILI) is a theory-driven, validated inventory that assesses four components of identity leadership as originally laid out in “The New Psychology of Leadership”. This four-dimensional model has been validated in multiple strands of research, reported in a 2014 Leadership Quarterly article (read full text).
Visit the ILI product page for further information and to access the ILI.
Social Identity Mapping (SIM)
Social Identity Mapping (SIM) is an easy-to-use method for visually representing and assessing a person’s subjective network of group memberships. Shown to be effective across a variety of research settings, SIM helps people to develop a visual representation of their subjective social-psychological well-being.
Access to the free post-it note version of SIM is available for download (access the paper, published in the British Journal of Social Psychology).
The online Social Identity Mapping tool (oSIM) is an online version of SIM, which is a psychometrically validated instrument that provides a comprehensive overview of a person’s social world (click here to access the paper, published in the Journal of Personality and Social Psychology).
The online delivery of oSIM affords researchers, students and organisations the flexibility to use the tool with people across the world, in clinical settings as part of interventions, in academic settings embedded into studies, or at the community or corporate level incorporated into team activities.
oSIM is available for licensing. For information on these licensing costs, please refer to the product page.
