The role of collective memory in shaping attitudes towards Australia Day

Using field surveys, this study found that greater recognition of colonial history and greater desired continuity of First Australian culture was linked to greater support for changing the date of Australia Day. These findings demonstrated how the socially constructive nature of collective memories are linked to commemorations of national history.
