Dr Sarah Bentley talks to Beyond Blue about supporting family or friends living overseas during COVID-19

SIGN’s researcher, Dr Sarah Bentley, recently spoke with Beyond Blue to share some tips for how to support family members — or friends — who are living abroad during the COVID-19 pandemic.

Australia’s border closures throughout the pandemic have provided a level of COVID prevention not experienced by other countries, yet it has also made it almost impossible to physically connect with loved ones living overseas.

This distance has made it difficult for people to offer much-needed support to those close to them who are living in countries that have been greatly affected by the pandemic.

Co-author of Together Apart: The Psychology of COVID-19 – a book co-written by some of SIGN’s own team members – Dr Bentley shared practical tips that people can implement to help them support themselves and their loved ones during a period of unprecedented change, tragedy and disruption.
