SIGNify Director, Professor Catherine Haslam, recently took part in a panel discussion exploring the online loneliness of digital natives. Titled, ‘Compassion and the New Technologies’, the event was hosted by The University of Queensland’s Faculty of Medicine, in partnership with the School of Psychology’s Compassionate Mind Research Group.

Hosted by the award-winning ABC health and science correspondent, Tegan Taylor, Professor Haslam was joined by fellow panellists, the neurosurgeon and founding director of the Centre for Compassion and Altruism Research and Education at Stanford, James Doty, and television host, media personality and mental health advocate, Osher Günsberg.

Discussing whether social media or other forms of digital communication have exacerbated isolation or brought people closer together, this event forms part of a series of wide-ranging conversations that attempts to uncover the role of compassion in the fields of emerging technology.
