Dr Hema Preya Selvanathan discusses how social movements maintain momentum.

Dr Selvanathan, who researches social movements, was recently interviewed by Teen Vogue to discuss how community movements such as Meditating for Black Lives, maintain participation from the community once widespread media attention of social movements has dissipated.

Meditating for Black Lives is a collective endeavour that uses principles and practice of meditation to support community efforts to heal oppression and bring feeling of solidarity. The group has faced challenges to maintain widespread participation since the media attention has declined, however there are other factors that contribute to a groups' success, such as a shared sense of identity and group cohesiveness.
