The Veteran Connection Programme (VCP) was developed by researchers to address identity change and social disconnection following military transitions. This group-based intervention enhances well-being and integration by helping veterans manage identity shifts, strengthen existing group memberships, and build new connections.

The program was co-produced with veterans and trialled with three cohorts in Australia and two in the UK, totalling 34 participants (28 completed all surveys). VCP includes an introductory interview, two half-day group sessions and a follow-up online session, facilitated by a psychology researcher and a veteran co-facilitator.

Survey data demonstrated significant improvements in thriving, self-efficacy in managing social identities, from pre to post intervention with large effect sizes.

There were also significant reductions in loneliness and distress. Reintegration as measured by the Military–Civilian Adjustment and Reintegration Measure (M-CARM) significantly improved.
